Serial Rape

The idea of rape is something that strikes a fear in women it is something very scary to have sexual intercourse against your will. Rape is a very serious and deviant crime that happens all the time in America rapes generally go unreported. Rape is defined as having sexual intercourse with another person forcibly against her will. Now I am going to concentrate my paper on serial rapists and to be defined as a serial rapist is committing three or more separate attacks with an emotional cooling off period. Now the F.B.I. Behavior Science Unit sets four types of rapists Power Reassurance rapists, Anger Retaliation rapists, Power Assertive, and Sadistic. I am going to be discussing all four with some characteristics about each of them.

First the Power Reassurance Rapists is the least violent of the four types of serial rapist, and is often called by cops as the polite, or gentleman's rapist. This is because he is concerned with the well being of his victims he does not want to hurt them but instead he is concerned with there health. During the time of rape he might even ask his victim's if he is hurting them and will generally contact his victims at a later time about how they are doing. He operates under the assumption that the victim actually enjoys the rape. This individual may suffer from extreme levels of low self esteem and feeling of inadequacy. His basic reason for raping his victims is to elevate his self esteem it makes him feel good about himself. For this rapist the act of sex shows his importance, he may view himself as a loser, but by controlling another human being he hopes to make himself believe he is important.

Profiling this type of rapist there is certain police would look for this individual tends to be single, lives with parents, no sex partner, quiet, passive. They usually are very sexual were they tend to be voyeurs, exhibitionist, and they ma have different fetishes. This rapist uses neighborhood attacks where he may live close to the victim and may have seen her in many occasions and fantasizes about her until he decides to rape. The Power Reassurance Rapists will not stop raping until he is caught and he will tend to rape every seven to fifteen days. This offender as mentioned before is likely to contact his victim again and will keep a diary with specific detail of each rape he commits along with possibly the taken of some kind of souvenir from the crime scene.
