Communication is relatively different between men and women as described in Tannen's essay "Sex, Lies and Conversation". Men and women have distinct forms of communication such as body language, expectations, as well as the interpretation of the communication at hand. These ideologies are also implied in the film Point Break directed by Bigelow as it portrays Utah's relationship with Bodhi, Endicott and Paappas.
Undercover FBI agent Johnny along side his partner Pappas is on a mission to discover who is responsible for numerous bank robberies in Los Angeles. Endicott is a surfing instructor who teaches Utah the ways of the waves. She soon becomes emotionally attached to Utah and shows him the ways of the bedroom. Endicott also the ex-girlfriend of Utah's new pal Bodhi, a philosopher surfer whose dangerous lifestyle is the reason Endicott broke off their relationship. Bodhi is also Utah's number one suspect in the series of bank robberies, which makes this love triangle all the more complicated and chock full of adrenaline! As Utah becomes seduced by Bodhi's mystical and reckless ways, Endicott becomes more distressed because she does not want to lose another man to the life of robbery and wrong doings.
Pappas serves as a father figure to Utah, providing insight and guidance. This symbolizes how men are able to bond because of experiences that are shared together. Men often times communicate more efficiently when they have person that is influential. In comparison to women tend to express emotion and is what connects them with other women. Women are able to relate to one another based on personally.
Men not very well spoken because men have to idea that actions speak louder then words.
Tannen questions why is it so hard for men and women to talk to each other?" She points out the differences of communication between men and women. She explains also how men and women communicate differs but the meaning is the same. Tannen mentions how when women converse with each other they are sympathetic and understanding with each other.
On the other hand men will talk about problems they don't get more in depth they will just make it not as bad as it seems. When women talk to men they misinterpret the signs of understanding or sympathy as being ignored and unimportant. It also works the other way around when men are talking to women they interpret the
