She Said Yes
She Said Yes, is a true story about the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. This book reveals the tragedy of the Bernall family and a mothers personal heartbreak after losing her daughter, Cassie Bernall in the incident. This also shows Cassie Bernall's path through life and her new-found love for god. She Said Yes is a very touching yet sad story.
In the shooting on April 20, 1999, 17 year-old Cassie Bernall went to school on a normal day, totally unaware on what was about to take place that day. As she walks into the library around 11:00 am that morning, her killers come in. Cassie was crouching under a desk praying for her life as one of her killers come up to and ask her a question. He asked, "Do you believe in God?" As easily as she could have just simply said no and maybe have a chance of living, she stood up for her religion. As she said yes, her killer pulled the trigger. She died for god and what she believed in.
Cassie was headed down a ver troubled past. She often had thoughts of suicide and murdering her parents. Her parents did not approve of the people she was hanging around and decided to move her to a Christian school in hopes of changing her life around. When she first switched schools, she was very angry and sad. She was not excepted and ways of expressing her pain was she would cut herself till she bled. But it took her going to a weekend church camp to realize what she has done. As she started to change her life around, her parents accepted her proposal to switch into a private school. Cassie was very troubled in the early part of her teenage years but she pulled it together and got in touch with everything. I really felt for her in the beginning of the story.
She Said Yes truly touched me and I really felt like I was one of the family's close friends and I really felt for them and the families that lost their children on that day. I would recommend this book to others and I would hope that they got the powerful feeling of sadness for Cassie and Cassie's mother.
In conclusion, overall I really liked this book. It was very sad that she had to die at such a young age and her not being able to experience as much as she should have. It also makes me wonder what the killers were thinking and the troubles they have gone through at home because I know that the
