Sport has evolved from largely local and national activity dominated by mass participation to an economically significant global market today (theory). Industrialisation has brought increased leisure time to the citizens of developed and developing countries. Sport is the fastest growing industry of the last decade; the consumers spend a big part of their yearly incomes in sport products such as performance and active wear, fitness machines and/or health products (theory).
People from all around the world are consuming sport and they chose to do it in different ways. Spectators are following sport through broadcast mediums including radio, television and internet or they attend event at the sport venue.
The sports industry has been booming in South East Asia with a total value of the market estimated at US$ 20 billion and Singapore has been a centre for this growth, organising the Asian Youth Games in 2009 and the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. Singapore offers a wide range of sports facilities for sports enthusiasts from all walks of life. From gyms to cycling paths, soccer fields to sea sports centres, there is never a shortage of avenues to sport practitioners.
As Singapore's population grows in affluence, so too its desire and demand for sport products and services, thus it is imperative that sport companies proactively tailor their marketing strategies to suit the needs of the Singaporean consumers
The new Singapore Sportshub should be completed by April 2014, the sport and leisure park extends over 35 hectares and the project is envisioned to be a fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub for everyone in Singapore. One of the only few stadium in the world to be air cooled and surrounded by 9 other buildings.
