Smoking is one of the most popular things in today's society and also one of the most dangerous habbits. At least 85% of teenagers start smoking by sixteen years old. On an average at least 450,000 people die from smoking related issues each year. Most people have no real reason to start smoking except that they think that it's cool or may get them more friends. If you're a teenager that is still in school they think that more people will like them and they will fit in with much more people. What most teenager do not know though is the long terms effect of smoking. After even finding out the effects people have a hard time stopping claiming that smoking relaxes them and relieves stress.
One of the main reasons people cannot stop is the addiction to the nicotine. People that smoke get a "nicotine high" because nicotine releases dopamine, a chemical in the brain that boosts moods and makes people feel calm and make you feel more alert. The nicotine in cigarettes is absorbed through the lining of skin in the mouth and nose. Even though you feel energized the first times you smoke after you smoke many times smokers energy and mood levels decrease.
