Social Networking Sites

The topic statement I plan on studying is the advancement of online racism through social networking sites. The main focus is the frequency use of these social networking sites , and the attitudes toward the negative racial messages that are presented via Facebook, YouTube , World Star , Twitter, Instagram. The Internet has made racism more comfortable mainly because people can hide behind faceless overt online offensive comments. The sociological significance of my topic is the connection of racism through mass media. Race has become a large part of American society, it has become a major part in shaping the American consciousness. The social and economic factors of racism are not just a bias negative portrayal of the different races, but it is also a tool which is profitable for the elite to suppress the lower class in order to maximize profits. The Internet is a more contemporary way to spread hate and offensive messages through social networking sites. For many years on television their have always been and overwhelming negative perception of African -Americans . One example is the idea that Africans or African American people are not a civilized group. Racism has moved from the Main Street to the average American household. Racism went from a few people shouting on the street to millions of people battling negatively online. The goal of this research study is to measure the frequent use of the social network sites and examine the attitudes toward negative offensive racial messages . White and black participants would be ask to read the offensive message and indicate their attitudes towards the message .
