"Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world, and people are starting to realize that knowing Spanish is extremely valuable," says University of Miami Spanish Lecturer, German Pavia. "People are more conscious about communication today." With more than 400 million people speak Spanish worldwide; the United States is fifth on the list of countries with the most Spanish-speaking citizens.

Pavia leads the University of Miami's intensive seven-day immersions style Spanish-speaking course. It is the unique style of instruction that makes this Spanish program is among the best in the United States.

"We combine both language and culture into this immersion style program. Students have every opportunity to practice Spanish through local print media, television, theatre, radio, restaurants, and businesses. These are all things that make learning the language accessible within the framework of the modern conveniences and facilities an American city."

There are four class levels in the immersion style Spanish course, with a maximum of 10 students per class. "These intimate class sizes are important to ensure every student is fully engaged in conversation throughout the day," says Pavia. "There are several instructors with different dialects and accents to expose students to a diverse range of the language from different counties and nationalities."

Students also sample different foods, dance, and activities during the program.

"Toward the end of the week, the students always bond like a family," he said. "This is a very fulfilling experience for every student."
