Pluto:
Mike Brown: reduced the 9 planets to 8 planets
Among our planets Pluto was always different. Had the largest moon proportioned to its own size, had a egg shaped orbital.
Search for Pluto was started by Percival, and Clive Tombar. Some scientist argued then that Pluto was too small in size.
Smaller than our moon it was originally thought to me as large as Mars. It was just called a planet w/o further research
Because of its distance away from the sun Pluto was named after the roman under god.
Pluto 2.7 billion away from earth. Pluto Takes 248 years to Pluto to orbit the sun.
Pluto's bright areas are made from three types of ice, and the dark areas are probably sillican rocks. It is 34 times further away from the sun than the earth is.
Pluto's average temperature is -388 degrees. Pluto's gravity is one fifteenth of the Earth.
Pluto has a large number of impact craters.
Why was Pluto kicked out of the Solar systems most exclusive club?
It has been a member of the Solar system for 70 years.
In 2005 Mike Brown found an object bigger than Pluto orbiting around the Sun with its own moon. He thought this was the 10th planet. Because its similarities with Pluto. Its moon orbited once every 16 to 17 days. He named it Eris. Then the definition of a planet was being hotly debated. A vote was taken in by IAU in Prague and there they changed the definition of Pluto.
Since the area around Pluto was full of objects kyper belt objects Pluto lost its planet status. Pluto and Eris and other objects with similar mass and characteristics are now called Dwarf Planets.
There is no one easy dividing line between being a planet, dwarf planet or not a planet. It is not a scientific question it is a question of the definition of a word.
The "New Horizon" is a space craft that is making haste time to reach Pluto even after it has lost the "Planet" Status. It must reach Pluto as fast as possible, otherwise vital information about the Primal information of the planet will be lost for another
