During Pi's 227 ordeals at sea, he encounters many obstacles and he struggles to survive in a life boat with only a tiger as he's only dangerous encounters of interlacement. At the end of his journey the author supplies two alternative endings. In the first ending, people from his past are put in place of the animals. And the second another a gruesome story without animals with his mother a cook, a sailor, and himself and how when people are desperate to survive they will do what they need to, to survive. I believe that the story without the animals really happened. Even if it is more savage and more heart breaking, I believe it is a more real than the one with animals. However, the story I prefer was the one with the animals. I think it was the better story and the more elusive story. It took away the viciousness, made the situation less savage, and gave the readers a sense of wonder and sense of adventure. The first ending was also happier in a deceiving way. It was still happy even if in both endings he ends up losing his whole family because after being at sea for so long he finally makes it back to shore. He begins to live once again in a more sane way. I am happy that he survived and later on started his own family. I really like that the author made it up to you to decide on how the story ended. The story I pick the end the book with is the animals because even stretching the truth on this case is less violent and in the end gives Pi more sense of humanity. His story is hidden and it takes away some shame he patois upon himself by acting savagely among his culture. It just makes him sound more pitiful and helpless than a killer due to not having the ability control or stop anything. That he's in innocent young man who was just doing what he can to survive. It gives more depth to him as a character. That is way I prefer the first ending more that the second one.
