Taking Technology Out of School
Technology is used more now than before. It has given us more time to devote on leisure and keep up to date with the world we live in. Particularly technology in schools has given millions of students the access to material that would be difficult to do without the help of a computer. Getting rid of it in schools should be considered a terrible idea because technology is such a reliable resource; it helps students and most importantly teachers excel in school and outside of school.
The growing addition of modern technology into schools has allowed students to better understand the material. For example, a student who needs to better understand the material of a tough assignment has access to the internet which if used properly can give them a better understanding of the lesson. Another instance is, for the students who don't have technology at home compared to the students who do can now complete assignments such as CompLab, MyMathLab, and type essays. All these various assignments can now be done while at school. Surely students can benefit from technology in school but, so can the instructors that teach them.
Technology and teachers are connected today and almost every teacher has a favorite technology tool that they use making his or her job easier and, connecting with students a little bit easier. As proof, teachers would have a hard time teaching students without the use of a smart board because teacher's uses that certain tool for PowerPoint's to show their class. Also, with the use of technology teachers can look for something online to add to their classes and email other teachers. Nevertheless taking technology out of school would eliminate these things and also do harm to teachers.
In the article "The End of Education" by Neil Postman, Postman disagrees with the use of technology in education. Postman states in the article that people let technology "distract us from more important things" (282). I disagree with Postman because technology doesn't distract it actually makes you more aware of your surroundings and the world. Having technology in schools can help students in the same way, by giving the opportunity to experience the world without actually being there. Many hardships will come upon students and teachers as an effect of removing technology from schools.
