This review is about the theater play of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" in which performed Soon Chun Hyang University, S.Korea. The play told a story that there was a girl who named Katherina can't find any man to marry her man because of her irritable and stubborn temper. In the case of reluctantly, she married with a tall and strong man named Petruchio. Petruchio tempered Katherina with various torments--the "taming"--until she becomes a compliant and obedient wife. The final monologue of Katherina also shows the success of the "taming".
This version of the taming of the shrew performed by Korean students was great, personally, I liked it very much, it was a combination of the classical culture of South Korea, from clothing to the way they acted was all in Korean classical style. The classical dance at the beginning of the play was a really good attention grabber. In addition to the classical style, the taming of the shrew of this version also includes the modern elements - pop dance. The combination of modern dance and classical art was adorable. Modern pop dance fully showed the unabashed character of Katherina. The play Added a lot of funny drama elements, such as the competition of the pursuers of the youngest daughter and the funny performance of the main characters made this play has become more attractive. Another thing must to be mentioned in which brighten the play in the end was the dance after Katharina finished the classic monologue. When everyone thought is must be the end of the play, Katharina started to remove her traditional costumes and started to dance. This action was like a surprise for the audience. The play ended with everyone applauded.
Some of the plot in taming of the shrew "was really funny, but the plot was very novel. Whether the play being performed on stage in a complete, adaptation, or abridged version. The audience will always left good comments on it. Until now, it has been changed into so many different versions of the play. In the modern age, the "tame woman" claimed by many people. Many directors would like ro reduced Katherine obedience of petruchio. Some director even changed the Last dialogue to hint that she was not really completely being tamed. These adaptations to "save" Shakespeare from tended to be male chauvinism. I think the dance performs at the end also highlight this popular changed in the play.
