  1. POONA - other term for badminton.
  2. INDIA – country where badminton was originated.
  3. ACE - A good serve that the opponents is unable to hit touch with his racket.
  4. BACKHAND - Any stroke made on the side of the body opposite the racket side.
  5. BIRD - The shuttlecock
  6. CLEAR - A high shot which falls close to the backline; another terms for lob.
  7. DRIVE - A hard horizontal stroke that is straight and close to the  net.
  8. DROP -A low shot close to the net made from the back court that falls or drops sharply immediately after crossing the net.
  9. FAULT- Any infraction of the rules resulting to the rules resulting to the loss of the server or the point.
  10. FOREHAND- Any strokes made on the racket side of the body.
  11. HAND-OUT  -Loss of service
  12. LET - A bird which touches the top of the net and falls in the proper side of the court.
  13. MATCH - Consists of three games, unless otherwise agreed.
  14. NET FLIGHT - A short  in which the bird follows the net in a short flight.
  15. RALLY - A heated return of the bird several times or the continuous stroking of the bird back and front across .
  16. ROUND HEAD STROKE - A high stroke over the head to hit a bird on the offhand  sides.

  18. SETTING THE GAME - Chasing how many points  to play when the score becomes tied as in 13 all 14 all.

  22. TRAVELLING – It is taking more than two steps without or after dribbling the ball, or moving the pivot foot once a player stops dribbling.
  23. DRIBBLING VIOLATION – Dribbling the ball with both hands on the ball at the same time or picking up the dribble and then dribbling again is not allowed. A player is not allowed to “palm” or hold the ball with one hand.
  24. GOALTENDING – A defensive player is not allowed to interfere a shot if the ball is on a downward path going into or after the ball bounces off the backboard.
  25. BACKCOURT VIOLATION – The offensive team may not intentionally or unintentionally return the ball to the backcourt since the ball is already in the court.
  26. TIME RESTRICTION – Any violation committed on the time restriction rules will mean a turnover or the ball will be awarded to the opposing team.
  27. FIVE- SECOND VIOLATION – An offensive player has onlhy five seconds to inbound .
  28. THREE SECOND VIOLATION – Any player of the offensive team who stays at the restricted or free throw area for more than three seconds is called for a three seconds violation.
  29. EIGHT SECOND VIOLATION – An offensive team has eight seconds to cross the ball from the court.
  30. 24-SECOND SHOT CLOCK VIOLATION – An offensive team has 24 seconds to make a field goal attempt (the shot must be successful of the ball must hit the ring in order for the shot to be rest).
  31. CHARGING – An ordinary foul committed by an offensive player.
  32. PUSING FOUL – A foul committed by a defensive player causing the opposing player to lose his balance.
  33. BLOCKING – A defensive player may not block the path of offensive player unless he/she established his/her position.
  34. UNSPORTMANLIKE FOUL – Any player which shows intention to hurt an opponent and not play the ball may be meted an unsportmanlike foul.
  35. TECHNICAL FOUL – Is given to any member of the team (players who are playing on the bench, coach and coaching staff, management staff, and utility staff) who committed a violation or misconduct or misbehavior in words or in deeds.
  36. MINTONETTE – An original name for the sports volleyball.
  37. WILLIAM G. MORGAN – Founder of volleyball.
  38. FIVB – Federation Internationale de Volleyball.

  40. DOWN BALL - A ball the blockers elect not to attempt to block because it has been set too far from the net or the hitter is not under control.
  41. JUMP SERVE - One of the most feared serves in all of volleyball when executed consistently, the jump serve involves the server tossing the ball up and making contact with the ball as it falls by jumping up in the air.
  42. LIBERO -  A player who can be substituted into a game freely in the back row for defensive purposes, i.e., digging, passing. Required to wear a striking and different color jersey, the libero is prohibited from serving or attacking the ball.
  43. PASS - The act of receiving and delivering the ball to the setter. Technically, a pass is made by joining the arms from the elbows to the wrists and making contact with the ball on the forearms in an underhand motion to direct the ball to the setter. The pass is considered the most important fundamental element of volleyball.
  44. SERVE - The act by one player to put the ball into play. The serving player is usually identified by the current rotation. When serving, the player must be located in a designated area behind the back line.
  45. OVERHEAD PASS -  A ball-handling skill using both hands simultaneously to contact the ball above the head and direct it to the intended target.
  46. KILL - A succesfful attack that terminates a play or rally resulting in an immediate point or side out by the team making the kill.
  47. FREE BALL - - A ball that is delivered over the net to the opposing team in a non-threatening manner because the ball was hit more like a pass rather than a spike. When this occurs, players on the opposing team normally and collectively yell "free!" while moving backwards away from the net to receive the free ball and set up a transition offensive play.
  48. ATTACK - A broad term that can mean many different things. At a high level, this term is used to describe the offensive scheme or pattern with which a team attempts to score a point. At a lower level, this term refers to the attempt by a player to score a point by hitting the ball in some manner.
  49. DINK OR DUMP - A pinpoint and aggressive push of the ball over the net. 99% of the time, this play is made by the setter. Usually performed by the setter, who delivers the ball into the opponent's court on the second contact.
