Terrorism by definition is the use of violence, or the threat of violence, to create a climate of fear in a given population. Terrorist violence targets ethnic or religious groups, governments, political parties, corporations, and media enterprises. Organizations that engage in acts of terror are almost always small in size and limited in resources compared to the populations and institutions they terrorize. Through publicity and fear generated by their violence, they seek to magnify their influence and power to affect political change on either a local or an international level.
There are ways of prevention against these attacks, however our civil ways would have to be changed. Since the September 11th attacks, I think the airports should operate in a stricter manner. Our borders need to be more strictly regulated. We need to control immigration, to help stop terrorism. Lastly, we need to think as our enemies do. There needs to be severe consequences on the terrorists to make aware that we are a strong country, who will not allow another to interfere in the lives of Americans.
The latest terrorist acts, that our nation are experiencing, are frightening. I have read about the many terrorist attacks that our country has faced in the past, but I never imagined that another day would come where terrorism would become a reality to me. Prevention can be achieved, but it will be a long, drawn out, challenging process. As Americans, we have to learn that our civil ways must be stricter in order to secure our safety for the future.
