The American Revolutionary War
On April 19, 1775, the Battle of Lexington and Concord , started the American Revolutionary War, and the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783. Under the British rule, the American colonists decided that they wanted their independence from Great Britain. Thus, the war began. The American colonies were able to win their independence from Great Britain with three advantages. One advantage was that the American colonists were fighting on their own territory. Another advantage that the American colonists were able to win their independence was because of notable foreign volunteers, or spies, aided them with updates on the British. The third advantage that the American colonies won their independence was because of leaders like George Washington.
With the incentive of fighting on their own territory, the American colonists were able to win their independence from Great Britain. Rather than having professional soldiers, the American militia consisted on farmers, merchants, and artisans. All of the members of the American militia supported the request for independence. The unprofessional soldiers were dressed in camouflage to help them blend in with their surroundings. They ambushed the British militia by using guerilla warfare and ambushing them in the back county. The geography of the land was unusual to the British because it was boggy, humid, rocky, and cold. Also, they had muddy roads and thick forests. Unlike the British militia, the American settlements were spread out on the territory, making it difficult for them to keep up with the American colonists.
