In modern time, information technology is increasingly applied in numerous companies for the purpose of operating businesses and communicating. Nevertheless, there are both benefits and drawbacks of using information technology. This essay will discuss the merits and demerits derived from utilizing information technology in the working space.

Information technology provides many advantages for corporates. This technology makes it more efficient for companies to run businesses. For example, preserving customers' information is of vital importance for companies. Supposing that corporates can establish a database system, it will be efficient for them to retain the information of customers and keep in close contact with consumers. After building an intimate relationship between customers, companies will be trusted by customers and gain further profits. Furthermore, communications become more convenient via information technology, such as e-mails and official websites, so that companies easily exchange messages with employees, clients or other companies. Then companies can have potent communications with them anytime and anywhere.

However, disadvantages also exist and should be paid attention to. Establishing and maintaining information technology system are exceedingly expensive. Thus, small firms probably do not possess capabilities to afford this huge investment. In addition, information safety is another noteworthy issue. Delivering information through information technology has a risk of leaking confidential and crucial materials which will be detrimental to companies. Skillfulness hackers are able to steal sensitive information and destroy private files based on residual data.

In summary, not only does information technology have some merits, but also it causes several demerits. Benefits contain enhancing work efficiency and effectiveness and contributing to communication, while drawbacks cover expenses and potential security threat. Thus, companies are necessary to balance these two aspects and find an appropriate way to make a good use of information technology.
