 1876 Alexander Graham Bell

In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone. We have Alexander Graham Bell to thank for all the telecommunications we have today that were based of his invention of the telephone. On March 10, 1876 Alexander Bell made his first call on the telephone he invented to his assistant Thomas Watson. The first words ever spoken on the telephone was Alexander Graham Bell telling his assistant, come here I want to see you. To think this is what started the telecommunication that we use daily.

 1888 The Bell Company Telephone Monopoly was Established

In 1888 the Bell Telephone Company was in a dispute with the United States court system, in regards to who patented the telephone. Both parties tried taking the credit for this accomplishment. The courts final decision was that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone and the Bell Telephone Company stood behind him.

 1919 Rotary dial Service is Introduced

In 1919 the Rotary dial service was introduced into the evolution of the telephone. The Model 50la Candlestick was the first rotary desk phone introduced to the world and would change the way people talked to each other forever.

 1967 -Toll-free (800) service is introduced

In 1967 toll free service was introduced to the telephone evolution. This meant that anyone could call these (800) numbers and not be charged for the call. Companies would set up a number that would allow customers to call and not have to worry about charges; this was a major change in the telephone evolution that is still used today.

 1988 Commercial voicemail service is introduced

Up until 1988 commercial voicemail was prohibited by the FCC to protect telephone answering services that took the companies calls. To companies this was a major break that would change the telephone evolution. Companies could now use a voicemail service of their own, rather than paying someone else to answer their phone
