The Preface and letters first introduces Walton whose story is just like that of Frankenstein's. Walton complains of being lonely and loss without any friends. He seeks companionship and finds it in a stranger. The letters also tells about the danger of knowledge or destructive knowledge.
The Frankenstein novel show is the importance of being human or wanting to be human. The monster sought the same thing as Walton a companion to share things with and someone that accepted him as himself. The monster was dependant on Victor in its early stages and just like a child he thirst for knowledge as he experiences life. Victor was remorseful in the fact that he created the monster. The monster was not that different than a human and he shared many of the same emotions and sought many of the same things such as companion, acceptance, and he longed after his creator. The monster showed signs of remorse and sorrow. The major difference was that the monster had no soul therefore his life was without meaning and it was evident after the death of his creator Victor and the monster found relief and freedom in it.
The speaker liked to show the portrait of his late wife because it was a piece of Art. Also, it was a reflection of beauty without any flaws unlike that of the Duchess when she was alive. Only the beauty of the picture was revealed and had none of her annoying qualities. The speaker was very controlling and this was his opportunity to control her through the artwork so he showed it off to the visitors.

The blooming lilacs served as a reminder of the death of a great President but served as a metaphor for the eternal renewal of life that our nation would soon recover. Whitman honored the life of Lincoln and also insured the American public would reunite. Whitman explored the theme of radical equality, the need for democracy, and the love of man and nature. Lincoln's death shall be remembered forever and great things came from death and his legacy was preserved through Whitman's poem.
I find that Dickinson lived her life through her poems and she shared her intimate thoughts and feelings. When you alienate yourself from the world as she did life experiences are somewhat fantasized and out of touch with reality. I do believe that she was intuitive in her experiences and it showed in her poetry. Her real life experiences of love, death, and idea of marriage was also evident in her poems.
