The life of the men
Karl Marx was born on 5 May 1818 in German Rhineland, he was of Jewish decent but his family converted to Christianity in fear of the anti Jewish laws. Marx's first academic accomplishment was studying law in Bonn and Berlin. In 1841, he gained his doctorate but turned to journalism and became more attached to politics and social issues. He was exiled twice first he resided I Brussels before moving back to Cologne where he founded his own newspaper then was exile again this time moving to London where he was reduced to poverty. He had garnered a lifelong friend by the name of Engels who helped him out financially along with a small income from his writings. Between 1849 to 1876 he buried himself into his writings, but due to the failure of the revolutionary movement, illness and the loss of his wife and daughter hi deid also in 1883.
George Simmel was born on 1 March 1858 of Jewish ancestry, and bred in Berlin, which brought great marginalization in his academic career at the University of Berlin. He studied widely which eventually earned him his doctorate after perseverance, but he remained at the University as an unaccredited and unpaid tutor. During that time, however he wrote numerous articles and books and finally given recognition for his work in the 1900. His teaching however was widely recognized and attracted a large number of paying students who up kept his livelihood. In 1914, he was given an academic appointment to a minor University in Strasbourg which closed shortly after due to world war 1. He felt unloved at his new appointment and miss his life in his previous capacity. Simmel attracted a large academic following up until his death in 1918 and it has grown over the decades.
