Introduction
After reading both synopsis of "The Matrix" and "The Allegory of the Cave," I have come to find that these two men have many similarities as well as differences. They have the same way of thinking, just in different views and scenarios. The way they portray their thoughts, they examples they give, is where the differences take place. As most of us do; live in a world where what we think is real, but turns out not to be.
Similarities
These men were living in worlds where they were being deceived by what reality, and truth really was. In The Matrix, Neo was surprised to realize that everything he thought was real was actually an illusion. The same for the slave in The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, he was bound to think that the shadows he was seeing was his reality. These two characters were both living in an unrealistic world; but then given the chance to see what reality was and they were both confused by it. The same way the people in the Cave are shown reality by the fire casting shadows in the cave, in the Matrix the people cast their illusions by what they computer casts directly to their brain. The people in the Matrix are blinded by reality because the computer is controlling the human's minds, therefore they are living in a dream; an illusion. The slaves in the cave are also living in an illusion because the shadows that are being shown to them on a daily basis is not reality, although they may feel like it is. Once Neo and the slave were both shown the reality they reacted in a wanting need of helping others. The slave in the Allegory of the Cave, wanted to back and help the rest of the slaves open their eyes to reality and be freed from the illusion that they were being portrayed to; same as the people in the matrix. But in both stories, the people rebelled. The slaves want to go back to the cave because they couldn't accept the reality, blinded by the sun, and rather live in the cave where they were used to living. Like many people in the matrix, were in denial by what the reality was and wanted to go back to the way they were.
Differences
The difference between the Allegory of the Cave and the Matrix is that the slaves living in the cave are living more miserable than those of the Allegory of the Cave. The slaves in the cave are not able to clearly see anything but shadows,
