The New Threat To World Peace

Terrorism.

Terrorism and terrorists are defined as people who cause death and destruction through means of bombs and hostage taking who bassically cause terror for religious reasons or another cause they see just.

After the end of the cold war people claimed that there was no threat to world peace .They were wrong however on September 11th 2001 all their views changed.

On September 11th 2001 two planes were hijacked and crashed into the Twin Towers aka (the World Trade Center) ,people also over looked that supposedly one plane was crashed in to the Pentagon and one was heading to the White House but was brought down by the passengers in midflight. After the planes crashed the World Trade Center Imploded killing a few thousand people. The Hijakers were working for al quieda a fanatical religious group who controlled Afghanistan ( ring any bells ). Its supprising however that the americans during the cold war helped to set up al quidea in afghanistan by arming them to fight their soviet oppresors. After the soviet troops retreated the Americans left Al quieda to run Afghanistan.

After the bombings of Sept 11th America had the worlds support in the fact that Afghanistan needed to be taught a lesson. America pledged war against terrorism and any one who harboured terrorisits. Countries such as Pakistan who showed a small liking for Afghanistan backed off and let America use its airfields after this declaration of war against terror even Russia who weren't great freinds of America were letting the americans use a big airbase near afghanistgan. Thus beggan the war on terror after NATO allowed that some action must be taken against Afghanistan and the Alquieda. The coalition moved in to take Afgahnistan.

The taliban aka ( alquieda) called upon its people to unite in a jihad (a holy war) against the evil west and America. A jihad is a Muslim holy war, all Muslims able to fight are supposed to for their religion.

The aim of this invasion was to quel the terrorist threat in Afghanistan and end the rule of Osama bin Laden over Afgahnistan by capturing him. The Coaltion succeeded

in there first objective and defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan They however have failed to captuer Osama bin Laden who is rumourd to reside
