The Perfect Storm Reading Response #1

The book that I chose to read is called The Perfect Storm. The book starts by taking place in a small fishing village named Gloucester in Massachusetts in 1991. It’s a small peaceful town where everyone seems to know one another. Most of the town’s population are fisherman like the main character, Bobby Shatford and his shipmates Dale, Bugsy, Billy, and Sully. Bobby is just a regular guy, divorced, two kids, mountain of debt, and little cash. So bobby wants to make a shiny dollar and work as a fisherman for the sword fishing boat The Andrea Gail. Bobby has a loving girlfriend in Gloucester, her name is Christina Cotter. Christina goes by the short name Chris as she could fit in as one of the guys Chris is favored by many of the townsfolk in Gloucester. She is a taller lady with bleach blonde hair. She fought a long and hard battle with bobby because she didn’t want him to go away on the fishing trip for a month long after just returning from a trip that was a month long. Bobby ended up making the final decision and was headed out on the sword fishing boat Andrea Gail the next day. The Andrea Gail was a real sword fishing boat that was originally named “Miss Penny” and was built in 1978, owned by Sea Gale Corp. The boat was consumed by The Perfect Storm of 1991 on October 28. For some reason it is also known as “The No-Name Storm”. It is made up of two big storms; The Northeastern, and Hurricane Grace which later had meteorologists calling it “The Perfect Storm”. Later in the book after the Andrea Gail set for the sea they hit a huge pool of fish and were catching fish after fish for a little while until everything slowed down then came to a stop and that’s where the ships captain had decided that he wanted to set course for the Flemmish Cap. Days of drifting through the ocean towards the flemmish cap and nothing, no fish. Once Andrea Gail reached the Flemmish Cap, the boat reeled in more fish than it could carry. The ice machine stopped working which made the captain decide to turn around and return to Gloucester, little did he know the Channel 6 news station in boston discovered a large array of not only one, but two huge storms headed right for each other, to collide right in the Andrea Gails path on their journey home.
