The Reason Most People Would Choose These Products

Everywhere I go I feel bombarded with advertisements whether I am riding in the car listening to the radio, driving by numerous billboards, or watching T.V.   In this case it is these two ads on the internet used in magazines.  These two images are conflicting messages to the kind of audience they want to attract. One of my images is a Coppertone product and the other is a Colgate tooth paste ad. The Coppertone product is much more seductive to the audience and much more persuasive due to the almost bare lady. It instantly would draw the opposite sex’s attention due to her sex appeal. On the other hand, Colgate is a little girl dressed very adorable in with a giant smile.

First I am going to describe the image of the product from Coppertone. This Advertisement caught my attention was due to the fact that the woman is being inappropriate by being shirtless at a beach. Then I look further to see that the persuasive image states “Beautiful tan skin today and young looking skin tomorrow.”  The image wants people to believe that by using Coppertone you will tan and not burn and you will look younger by using this product. We all know the sun can cause serious damage to our skin, so why would we automatically believe this magic lotion is any different.  Well for starters everyone has a need to want to be prettier and younger. We want to believe a simple lotion could do the trick. Looking at this image this woman is young in her early 20’s and having a lot of fun on the beach. She is obviously not ashamed to take her shirt off in front of a crowd. Some might think I want to look like her, so the next time choosing a tanning lotion it is apparent which brand will be selected.

Secondly, In this next image the little girl is standing in front of the mirror after using Colgate. She is smiling as if she enjoys brushing her teeth. The slogan states, “Only a Dentist Can Give Her a Better Fluoride Treatment! “.  The little girl has white perfect teeth, every parent dreams this task could be this easy. Every parent has a need to make sure their child is getting the best for their health. Children hate trips to the dentists due to the fact that it’s scary and painful.  It seems as though this toothpaste can help with the cleaning without a trip to the dentist, than it must seem worth the try. The advertiser is trying to persuade parents to buy this product and not any other product in false hopes that their children will be just as happy brushing their teeth.

Next, we all interpret different photos in certain ways. These two images differ in the type of audience they are trying to convince to buy the product.  One is of an almost bare woman targeting women who may show signs of aging or women who just want to have a great tan. The other advertisement is targeting young children and parents to by the brand Colgate in hopes of having healthy looking smile.  The Coppertone product attracts people who are less serious and want to have fun at the beach, lake or pool. The woman in the image is having fun with the boys who are attracted to her provocative behaviors. On the other hand, the little girl is more conservative and attracting more of the family kind of people.

Furthermore, One person may interpret a photo in one way, and a second person could interpret it a whole different way. The way that I have interpreted this photo in my eyes, is correct. But, there are certainly other ways to analyze it. One other interpretation is that since a specific person, who happens to be famous, is using a certain type of toothpaste, everyone else should be using it. I don’t think this is the proper way to analyze this photo because a lot of different famous people advertise different things. That doesn’t mean that we have to use every single one of those products. It just wouldn’t make any sense to use products depending on who else is using them and why they are using them. We should use the product because we think it is what is best for us.
