The Rise of the Medici
Renaissance: The humanistic revival of classical art, architecture, literature, and learning that originated in Italy in the 14th century and later spread throughout Europe. This period of revival, roughly the 14th through the 16th century, marked the transition from medieval to modern times.
The rise of the Medici family in Florence, Italy was around the time of the Renaissance. This was a different type of family and they rose to great power not through the use of armies or kings but through the use of banking and money. Over time, the Medici family were able to accumulate more and more wealth and they used this wealth to gain more and more power over kings, dukes and even the Pope. Using this money, they were able to transform themselves from a small, no-name family into one of the most powerful political families in Europe.
