"The Terrible Twenties"

In the writing by David Smith - Rowsey, The Terrible Twenties Rowsey is comparing the life of twenty year olds now to the life of twenty year olds back in the 60's. Rowsey states how this generation of twenty year olds are the stupidest generation in American history and that we have our parents to blame.

I agree with Rowsey when he says that many things have changed since the 60's such as prices, unemployment pay and the difficulty of finding a job in our economy. "Back when you could grow up, count on a career and maybe think about buying a house. When one person could expect to be the wage earner for a household." Rowsey states that now many twenty year olds of this generation lay around their parents house until well past their college years. Though I have moved out of my parents house, I do agree with Rowsey about there being many twenty year olds who lay around their parents house as long as their parents will let them.

Rowsey seems very angry when he writes this paper and has a very sarcastic tone. "We don't read books like you did." The "You" referred to through out his writing is referring to the parents of the twenty year olds. Also, I believe the author himself is a twenty year old due to the fact that he states "We" several times while referring to this generation. "We really do get lower SAT scores." "Perhaps you really have created a

nation of mush-heads who will always prefer style over substance, conservative politics and reading lessons.
