The Twisted truth of Salem
The whole play start because the main character John Proctor cheats on his wife Elizabeth Proctor with their servant Abigail Williams. Now with the religious people of Salem believing that the devil is loose in the woods of their town of Salem (back in those days the people believed that the amount of land you had determined the social status in the village.) And people eager to prove their social status by grabbing as much land as possible, Started accusing people of witchcraft so as soon as they were in jail they could snatch it up. This is what started the whole epidemic in Salem.
The crucible opens with Abigail Williams, her cousin Betty Parris, (Whose dad was the minister of Salem.) and the Parris's servant Tituba (who was from Barbados, She had the girls believing that she could perform witch craft.) were dancing naked in the woods to perform witch craft on John Proctor wife Elizabeth to kill her, so Abigail could have John proctor back.
Abigail's Uncle Reverend Parris sees Tituba and the girls dancing in the woods (Dancing was frond upon in these days.) and didn't know what to do, so he just ignored it until his daughter Betty goes into a mysterious coma and Reverend Parris questioned Abigail and in order to get the blame off of her she accuses Tituba of witch craft. Tituba pleads guilty to witch craft and is immediately jailed. Well once Abigail gets a little bit of power it goes to her head. Abigail gets other girls to join in on her power trip and this is what the sparks the whole witch trials.
When John Proctor finds out that his servant is helping Abigail he tries to put an end to it but Marry warrens will was to strong she would not be told what to do. During marry warrens episode a visitor Reverend Hale came to check up on people to see if he could find any suspicious witchery (He had just come from Rebecca nurses house and thought she was a saint.) he asked them to say their commandments which John Proctor could not say the one about adultery because of what he had done to Elizabeth.
Reverend Hale did not believe that the court was doing a righteous job when Elizabeth was accused and was convinced against the court when he found out about Rebecca Nurses accusation. After Elizabeth was shackled and hulled off to prison John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and John Proctor's
