The University of Dayton, founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, remains a private coeducational school. The school expresses the motto, “Pro Deo et Patria” meaning, “For God and for Country,” as it takes immense pride in its religious community. However there is more to the school than the holy expanse. The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for success in post baccalaureate life because of its exceptional academic opportunities, ideal student body size, and remarkable Marianist community.
The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for success in post baccalaureate life because of its exceptional academic opportunities. It offers a multiplicity of majors which would behoove one much like myself. One who has maybe started thinking about life after high school, but does not know what career they want to pursue. Additionally, there is ample opportunity at the school to study abroad and take up internships through the school. “As a comprehensive university, we commit ourselves: to educating students within a vibrant learning community; to strong programs in both liberal arts and sciences and the professional disciplines; to collaboration across disciplinary and organizational boundaries.” Another strong belief of the school is learning not only by studying, but doing. They encourage student to go out and create real things in the real world. For example they offer partnerships with doctors and engineers to assist in making medicines and machines.
The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for success in post baccalaureate life because of its ideal student body size. When making the transition from high school to college, students must attain the people skills necessary later in life. A small school where friendships come easily and where one will be talking to the same people all of the time will not benefit the students in their ability to interact with others. However at the same time, one would find themselves miserable at a school so big they would get lost. The University of Dayton serves perfectly with a student body size of 11,000. Also, the student to faculty ratio is 15:1. This student to faculty ratio makes the students feel like the University of Dayton is a welcoming family atmosphere. This website states, “The student satisfaction is 88.5 percent, which is ranked very high nationally.”
