THE WEDDING DANCE

READER-RESPONSE APPROACH

The story, "The Wedding Dance", was simply a reflection and mere representation of two different individuals: a man and a woman. Awiyao represented a well-defined being whose longing to have a child with his wife, Lumnay. I understood that life without a child is unworthy to live since a child fulfills the whole being of a person or a couple. However, if I were Awiyao, I won't mind those men who kept on mocking me just because I love my wife and having a child takes time and of course, it's worth the wait. If it's meant for you then you should be thankful but if not, you should still be thankful because you have that wife who possessed an ideal kind of a wife whom you wanna be with until your last breath. One should know how to accept things that weren't meant for them. Maybe for some, marrying another woman just to have a child is the easiest solution they might do but in my own opinion, it's quite rude and you're stepping unto the dignity and whole being of your wife. It shows something like, "You just want me or to marry me because you wanted to have a child and if I can't bear a child, you would easily replace me and just leave me hanging."

On the other hand, Lumnay as a woman was defined to be unselfish, faithful and ultimately strong. She is very courageous and has the will to give and sacrifice everything just for his husband. If I'm gonna put myself into the situation of Lumnay, it would be a big slap on my face that my husband would immediately replace me just because I can't give him a child. I will feel very frustrated of what had happened to me and to my husband only just because we waited for years, sacrificed everything and still haven't received a blessing. It's a big slap for me for having been replaced by my husband whom I really love and we knew that we love each other so much. If I were Lumnay, I'm going to be crazy and it feels like I was stabbed again and again by my own husband and watched me die.

If I'll be given the chance to create a clear ending for the story, maybe I'll include some twist. Since Awiyao was about to marry Madulimay, after a year, they still have no child. One day, Awiyao decided to leave Madulimay and go back to Lumnay so she searched for her. He went back to the house which he built for Lumnay
