To Be a Man Today
Webster's dictionary defines a "man" as, "one possessing in high degree the qualities considered distinctive of manhood." In addition, society defines a "man" of today as some one who possesses strength, good looks, and wealth. My view differs from that of society and Webster's Dictionary. To me, responsibility, character, and money are what make a man today.
Responsibility is a number one quality necessary to define a man. For example, a father of a family works to provide for his family. If the father shirked his responsibility, there would be no money to pay for food, utilities, and the house that the family needs. Responsibility is required in order to keep all families and many other organizations together. Also, it is the responsibility of the father to provide an example for what young males need to grow up to be.
Character defines every man's life. Characteristics such as: confidence, intelligence, humor, diligence, and morality identify how a man will be successful. In addition, those characteristics will tell society what type of personality a man has. These characteristics also make a man more appealing to women. These characteristics are essential for men who want to have a family. Men are more appealing to women who are intellectual and humorous because they make for a more interesting relationship.
Least of all is money. Money makes the world turn; it is what provides the means of surviving. Without money, a man can not provide for himself. But, more importantly, a man can not provide for a family with out money.
Generally when a boy grows up, he learns the necessary morals and values of life. When that boy becomes a man, experiences, and knowledge will guide the man to do what will benefit him and society. This is how character, responsibility, and money are what define a man today. They are what is needed to move man forward in his endeavors.
