To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a dramatic fictional story about two kids Scout and Jem, their father Atticus, The problems they deal with from not having a mother or wife, having to adjust to a new environment, and facing the hate of raciest. Taking place in a small quiet town in Maycomb, Alabama To Kill a Mockingbird is a story of hate, a bit of love, and drama.

To begin with Scout is an important role to look at in this story she is shown to be a mean, rowdy, and ambitious little girl. To start with she is mean as she says what she wants to say even if it may hurt other peoples feelings like she did to Walter Cunningham. In the story some of her meanness can be shown in chapter 3 page 33 she states " He ain't company, he's just a Cunningham" This shows that she is mean because she calls somebody who has a hard life nothing. She even shows meanness after this by telling Calpurnia a women who cooks and cleans for them that because of what Cal said to Scout when she was being rude to Walter Cunningham- the boy she was rude to- she was going to wait until Cal was turned around then she was going to drown herself in Barker's Eddie.

Secondly Scout is rowdy. She gets into fights and attempts to many times. As shown in Chapter 14 page 184. In this Chapter Jem tries to explain to Scout that Atticus's case was worrying him and she said nothing worry's Atticus in which Jem replies that she can't remember anything but for a short time and that we grown ups( she cuts him off ) he also ends up saying that he would spank her. This set Scout off causing her to say " You damn morphodite, I'll kill you!" and then after saying that they get into a fight which Atticus has to break up.This is her worst fight because unlike the others it is against her own brother.

The last significant characteristic Scout has is that she is ambitious. Scout is shown to be ambitious in chapter 9 page 109 when she says " Yeah. Don't say anything about it yet, but were gonna get married as soon as we're big enough. He asked me last summer." This shows that she is ambitious because she is little sister to Jem who is about thirteen years old which shows that she that even even at younger than 13 she is already think towards the future and who she is going to marry. And another reason is that she had just recently met Dill the kid she wanted to marry.
