Tobacco is a plant that is green and leafy. This plant usually grows in warm climates., In November of 2006 the citizens of Arizona made their voices heard by passing the Smoke-Free Arizona Act A.R.S. §36-601.01. Tobacco contains over 4000 chemicals. One of the products found in tobacco that makes it so addictive is called nicotine. Once nicotine is inhaled into our body, our body starts desiring more. Despite the dangers of tobacco to our health, the various forms of tobacco are acceptable in our society today. After the tobacco plant is picked up from the farm, it is dried up, ground up, and used in different ways. Tobacco can be smoked as cigarette, pipe or cigar; tobacco can also be chewed, which is called smokeless tobacco; and tobacco can also be sniffed through the nose called snuff.
Some examples of smoked tobacco include cigarettes, bidis, cigars, and hookah. Cigarettes are tobacco that has been cured and finely cut. Then it is rolled into a paper wrapper and has a filter to it. Cigarettes contain many other chemicals and nicotine is one of them. Another example of smoking tobacco is Bidis. Bidis is popular in India. The difference between bidis and cigarettes is the nicotine content, which is found to be higher in bidis. Then, there is cigar, which is another form of smoking tobacco, which does not have a filter. The hookah is a pipe used to smoke tobacco. Tobacco used in a hookah is in combination with fruit or vegetable that is heated together to give it a flavor. The tobacco is then passed through a water filter during smoking. Tobacco can also be consumed by using a smokeless form.
In the USA, the two main types of smokeless tobacco are snuff and chewing tobacco. Snuff is finely ground tobacco that can be moist or dry and is sniffed for consumption. Chewing tobacco comes in a leaf form or, are stored in tea bag like pouches. This tobacco is placed between the gum and the cheek. The tobacco is then socked out and the juices are spat out. That is why chewing tobacco is also called spitting tobacco. All forms of tobacco, no matter what form used, still poses great health risk to the consumer.
The health dangers of tobacco depend on how long you have consumed tobacco, how often and how much you consume. Some of the health dangers of tobacco include; Cancer, heart disease
Cancer is a disease caused by uncontrolled division of abnormal cell in the body. This division affects the body's ability to fight off infections. Tobacco consumption has been known to cause various types of cancer.
