Running Head: WHEN ADDICTION BEGINS

Tobacco Smoke vs. Tobacco-free Smoke: When Addiction Begins

Joanna C. Kaufmann

Florida State University

Abstract

Water pipe smoking is very popular overseas, and is rapidly becoming a fad here in western culture. Very little research has been done on the topic of water pipe smoking and its affects on humans. A random sample of 30 people, males and females from all different kinds of cultural backgrounds, was taken in Tallahassee, Florida. The main purpose of the experiment was to test whether or not smoking tobacco through a water pipe creates addiction or becomes habit forming.

APA Research Paper Proposal: Title of the Paper

I want to know if giving people a new flavor of tobacco sheesha will increase the level of addiction compared to those who do not smoke the tobacco.

Most people, at one time or another, are exposed to tobacco smoke. It has been said countless times that people often become addicted to smoking when they are exposed to it, or if they try at least once. Smoking tobacco through a water pipe has become increasingly popular throughout the Western culture. It originated in the Middle East and has grown in popularity across the globe.

I would like to take a group of people and test weather or not there is a high level of addiction with those people who smoke tobacco sheesha versus those who smoke tobacco-free sheesha. I feel as though there will be a very significant difference between the two groups; The group smoking the regular tobacco water pipe will have a much higher level of addiction than those who smoke the tobacco-free water pipe.
