Torture

In the Webster's dictionary it is defined as: an infliction of severe physical pain as a means of punishment or coercion. I think this definition makes more sense and gives the word more meaning. When we took a look at some of the gruesome pictures of torture that made me think there is absolutely no reason for this. I found it amazing that people can do such things and not even have a reason behind it. But, when you take other situations and don't dramatize them so much something I feel torture is ok.
I find the question you are looking for very hard. When I really think about my answer I find myself contradicting myself. If I think about someone holding my family hostage and threatening them and my only answer was to torture the individual to get my family back your damn right I would. All in all, I really should say no there is no reason to torture someone in any situation. It's violating someone's human rights.
I think there are so many types of torture that it's so hard to define. You can go from one extreme to another. I mean of course crucifixion, mass burnings, dislocating joints, and electrocutions are way out of the question. These things are just inhumane. But then again you can say torture can be punching a person in the face, which happens every day.
As I'm trying to answer this question I just can't find a yes or no answer. Like I said, I keep contradicting myself so I can't make up mind. I really think it depends on the situation and it depends on what physical torture is going to be done. There is no way to justify that though because everyone has a different opinion on what physical tortures and what situations are justified.
