Hoi An is not only popular among the Vietnamese but also among international travelers. This essay will point out what elements have contributed to its attractiveness.
To begin with, Hoi An connects tourists with its historical and cultural values. Hoi An once was a busy trading port where merchant fleets from all around Southern Asia met. Luckily, it was not devastated by wars and mass urbanization in Vietnam. Therefore, when visiting ancient houses, tourists can not only get access to traditional architecture but also find out more about old life-styles. Furthermore, Hoi An also maintain valuable customs, which helps travelers understand about the past. For example, in the evening, people gather in an open place to listen to “Bai Choi” – a kind of folk music. Specially, in the evening of full-moon in January, visitors can join locals releasing lanterns on the river to pray for peace, happiness and luck. Besides, the culinary world in Hoi An is irresistible. Cao Lau, Quang Noodles and Chicken Rice are among famous cuisines. The way they are prepared and cooked is unique.
