The short-term goals for treatment of paranoid schizophrenia require a skilled and trained psychiatrist in this field to help clients to deal with specific problems. During this treatment, patients learn to identify their problem and how to change disturbing and destructive thought patterns which influences negative behavior. At one point in time, patients were discouraged from discussing their delusions of paranoid schizophrenia. Patients are now advised to discuss their symptoms of schizophrenia as part of an established treatment.
The long-term goals includes teaching patients that the world around them cannot control every aspect. One of the most effective treatments for this disorder is psychotherapy. This treatment consists of an extensive psychoanalytic approach. This psychoanalytic approach reinforces the appropriate behavior to make connection between the person's actions and their feelings. Psychotherapy focuses on group discussions, family, communication and building self-esteem to improve social interaction. Emotions play a key aspect of the treatment disorder. Patients often feel they have no significant emotionally positive relationships in their lives. A close therapeutic relationship between client and therapist only can occur with a good solid rapport has been established. Client must be able to trust the therapist implicitly.
Antipsychotic medications have also been effective at reducing symptoms (Butcher, Mineka, & Hooley, 2010). Paranoid Schizophrenia can be a debilitating mental disorder that makes it difficult for patients to suffer in their daily lives. This disorder can make it hard to hold a job or maintain relationships with family and friends. Paranoid Schizophrenia is a difficult disorder that is not completely understood, but the symptoms of the disorder can be managed through therapy and medication. With continued advances in medicine and psychology the treatment of paranoid schizophrenia progresses to a point that will one day hopefully allow people to live completely normal lives.
