Essay Four: Understanding Creation Matters

When we give thought to our origin it can evoke creative and critical thinking, confidence, and a sense of purpose. “Again, creation implies intention and purpose. Ministry seeks to work within the purposes of God displayed in His creation” (CN 24). Understanding the fact that God created the universe and everything in it in my opinion, is necessary in order to fully understand the purpose of ministry. There are many things that can benefit us as Christians when we give thought to how and why God created the universe.

First, when Christians begin to discuss and learn about the origin of the universe it can strengthen critical and creative thinking, “…thinking through matters of ministry there is much to be learned… (27). I believe whole heartedly that Christians should be strong critical and creative thinkers because in ministry Christians will be asked some difficult questions. So, Christians should be prepared to answer those difficult questions for the scripture calls us to, “Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). Critical and creative thinking development is only one of the many benefits while thinking about creation. Secondly, accepting that God created can benefit the overall moral of Christians in the field of ministry. It gives a sense of purpose and direction for me especially. It gives me assurance that God intentionally created everything with a purpose. “The fact that God made the Universe and gave it intentionality and purpose should also increase our confidence when He gives directions as to how we should act within the created order” (24). Knowing that you have a purpose is comforting while facing the trials of the world.

There isn’t enough room on this paper for me to discuss all of the benefits we get as Christians from knowing that God created, but worth mentioning, it instills Christians with a sense of purpose, it develops critical and creative thinking which allows us to better answer the tough questions, and most importantly it gives us a sense of direction in ministering.
