A virus is a program written to misbehave to a computer system. Most viruses can damage your files and even your hardware. They are very hard to detect (find). They can reproduce other viruses and are very hard to get rid of. A computer can pick up a virus when you copy a normal file from a diskette or download it from the Internet.

Anti-virus software is a program which is run in the background of a computer which scan’s the computer’s memory, files and all the diskettes that are accessed and searches for known and unknown viruses in your computer and removes them. This can also help repair damaged files.

Anti- spy ware is a piece of malicious software which is intended to seize or take some control of a computer’s operation without the user knowing.

The business user will need to run these two pieces of software at least to the very minimum once a day. This is to ensure that his/her computer is safe from these codes and that his files are safe.

If the business user wants to run either one of the two pieces of software or both pieces of software then he/she will need turn on the machine and let it boot up. He/she will need to type in their own user name and password to access their own area. Once they have done this, then they will need to click on:-

Start>Programs>Accessories> and both pieces of software should be listed. Select the one which you would want to do.
