Dispositions Essay

In today’s classrooms, many professionals exhibit certain dispositions [a]that help make their classrooms a better place. Many educators base their profession off these specific dispositions but continue to grow along the years as new dispositions make an appearance. Dispositions are very similar to professional beliefs or even values systems, but they are much more than that. Dispositions are professional modes of conduct and the ways in which beliefs and attitudes are displayed by how the teacher acts in and out of the classroom. Teachers with positive dispositions act in ways that uplift the profession of teaching in the eyes of others and makes the classroom feel like a second home.

Professional Ethics is very important [b][c]among educators because they help the educator to become more than just a satisfactory teacher. As a teacher, you need to be able to understand that students needs are constantly changing and you must be able to meet those specific needs, even if that requires changing your original plan. The use of diverse teaching strategies and incorporating different lesson plans is almost completely vital in the classroom. Students learn in different ways and as an educator, you must be able to have an alternative way of teaching the students who don't learn in a common way. Teacher[d][e]s’ must be constantly challenging their students because you never want to limit the ability of those who may be ahead, this helps show the students that they are able to achieve anything. Having an educator that loves teaching and has the passion and productivity to teach, helps the classroom to be productive because the students can tell when certain teachers don’t love what they do. A professional educator constantly tries to better themselves and takes skills that they may have not previously had but applies them to the next year. This does not only benefit the teacher but also the future students.

The Model Code of Ethics is very important for educators to follow. This helps show them exactly what is expected of them and helps show them boundaries. In my past educational experience, I found that it was important for teachers to know these because in this specific professional education, you can get in trouble for anything. You have constant eyes on you, so by having the MCEE, you know exactly which boundaries not to cross. As a teacher, you interact with so many people daily and there is always a possibility that you and someone else will have differences, but it is important to resolve any issues according to district policy and to respect each other once the issue has been resolved. When I was in 10[f]th grade, I had a teacher who was very conservative in his beliefs. This made his classroom a very uncomfortable place to be in because he wasn't respectful of those who had a different sexual orientation, gender identity, and even a specific ethnicity. This violates the MCEE because it specifically states that "[g]The professional educator demonstrates an ethic of care through respecting the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual student.” (NASDTEC, 2015). While it may seem like there is a lot of principles that educators must follow, most of it is common sense. If you follow the MCEE properly, you will have an efficient classroom.
