1)The inputs that make up the tracking system would be the order itself which customers place online and the label which gets created and entered into UPS's tracking system which starts the process. The DIAD system is also an input that allows drivers to access their routes of delivery and keep track of customer signatures after delivery. The processing would be the bill for the customers, smart label which is used to track the package to its varying destinations while in transit, and the distribution systems which UPS utilizes in order to get the package to the correct location in time. The outputs of the system would be the "340 method" which UPS uses to gather feedback and make their delivery fleet more efficient in the future.
2) Some of the technologies used by UPS would be their DIAD system which gives the delivery fleet efficient routes for delivery and also keep track of customer signatures and delivery times. The OMS is an efficient web based service that allows UPS to keep track of critical package deliveries for large businesses around the world. UPS uses internet technology for individual customers as well as large business to take advantage of the services that UPS provides such as filing claims, making labels, tracking packages, and numerous others offered on the website. These technologies allow UPS to stay ahead of the competition using the most advance information technology available which also helps keep loyal customers coming back.
3) UPS's information technology allows them to keep costs at a minimum by giving their delivery fleet the most efficient routes possible which saves fuel and time for more deliveries. The cost savings which result in these methods allows UPS to invest more money in places such as keeping these information systems up to take and streamlining its logistics.
4) If the information system were not available, UPS's customers would most likely look to other companies to handle their delivery needs. Their business strategy would fall apart as it would be very difficult to keep costs low as their delivery fleet would be using much more fuel trying to figure out the best routes for delivery.
