Urban Growth

Write an essay describing the process of urban growth.

Urban growth is what put the world at its current position. Every single city started out as a few people gathering at a designated spot, and grew to what it is now. The people gathered there because there was a river nearby, or the crop was especially fertile, or something of that nature. Then the people began needing things, like horseshoes, clothing, and houses. Sooner or later, the place will grow into a small town. As more people begin to settle, the place will spread out and soon enough become a city.

There were only a few issues created by my city, and they were not difficult to solve. There were only problems with reaching each factory with railroad, they couldn't be solved unless it was possible to pick up the factory and move it to an easier accessible place.

Layouts of cities affect people in different ways, but mostly the distance they have to walk. If you place the tenements a good distance away from the factories, then the working class will have to walk that much farther to get to their work (not that anyone would care). The upper-class, would have wanted to be as far away from the factories as humanly possible, as well as the train tracks and canal; wouldn't want to disturb their precious little heads while they're sleeping of course.

Problems that will continue to exist no matter what you do are the problems with health and pollution. The factories produced so much smoke and ash that it covered the houses and ground, not to mention the inside of children's lungs. The sanitation in most parts of the town was probably so bad, that even the hospitals were unclean.

If I had been able to plan the city, I would have made sure all the factories and train tracks were on one end of the city, and
