USA a Materialistic Society?

The United States is by far the most materialistic society that has ever existed. America is filled with materialistic people, with me being one to some extent. I enjoy having brand name clothes, up to date technological devices, and many other things. People in America are consumed with having materialistic things. It's hard to go a week without seeing any of my friends, who hasn't purchased new cell phone, an Abercrombie and Fitch polo, or whatever it may be.

In other countries, they might not have had the means to buy these possessions. I don't think these people have the need or desire to have things such as we Americans do. In other cases it could be against their religious beliefs to have such items. They probably question why we need these things, and what purposes they serve. They possibly might even frown upon us for having these insecurities.

Being born in America; and having a family that has given me what I wanted most of the time, I have had these items, and gotten new things when I wanted them! I can't say if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I don't think I've been so consumed by materialistic things, that it has been a problem with me. As a whole, including myself I think the people of America are consumed with these materialistic things, and it could become a great problem in the time to come.
