Victor in the Role of God
Victor stated that Elizabeth belonged to him; this early tendency shows how his passion to invent his own creature came about. "I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deeper mysteries of creation (Shelley 47). "I became myself, capable of bestowing animation upon lifeless matter (51). He wanted someone that he could have absolute power over. Victor tried to be like God by trying to create life. Victor is the opposite of a kind and loving God in Frankenstein.
Unlike God, Victor abandoned his creation. "Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I escaped" (85). God provided Adam with food, shelter, and companionship. Victor had a place for his creature to stay but he didn't want to let him stay there. He knew that the monster couldn't talk, but he failed to teach him.
Parents are supposed to love their children and teach them everything they need to know in order to survive in this world.
Both the monster and Adam felt alone, and saw no one else like them when they looked around. "You must create a female with for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies... This alone you can do..." (130). Victor thought about making his creature a female companion, but he changed his mind. God, on the other hand, just made Eve; he told Adam he needed a help mate.
Victor didn't take responsibility of his "child". The monster was left out in the world without knowing how to communicate with humans. As a result of this, he had to learn on his own. God's man creature was sane and intelligent. Although Frankenstein's creature was made of dead human remains, he didn't have any of the knowledge they had when they were alive.
God created all life, Frankenstein brought the dead back to life, he didn't create it, he revived what was already there. Victor didn't think about how neglecting his creature could cause harm to other. He lacked the knowledge that God possessed.
