We all remember getting up and watching Saturday morning cartoonsÐ'....we remember a lot of thisÐ'.....while we were watching them tho, did we ever stop to think about how cartoons got to where they are today? Cartoon animation has gone through many changes throughout its history, and many of those changes are due to one manÐ'....walt Disney. Walt Disney almost singlehandedly helped to revolutionize the world of animation.
Walt Disney was known to often sayÐ'.... "It all started with a mouse"Ð'....i'm sure that we all know what mouse he is talking aboutÐ'...mickey mouse. Just like the rest of animation, mickey has gone through many changes. This is how mickey started out. The first cartoons were black and white and silent. The mickey cartoons were not met with much more enthusiasm then other cartoons at the time. Walt had the idea to synchronize sound with the cartoon and the first sound cartoon debuted with mickey in "steamboat willie" in 1928Ð'....it was an amazing successÐ'....
The next big change that walt made was adding color to cartoons. Up until then all cartoons had been in black and white. Walt was making a series of cartoon shorts called silly symphonies that had been having only mild success. Walt heard of a new technique that involved full color and decided to try it on the silly symphonies. He completely redid the cartoon flowers and trees in full color Technicolor. This was expensive and a big risk, but it ended up paying off because audiences loved it, and the series actually became more popular than the mickey mouse cartoons. The first tehcnicolor film, flowers and trees, won an academy award.
So far the only animations produced were short cartoon films, but just as walt pushed all other limits and boundries within the business, he thought, why not push the limits with length? In 1938 snow white and the seven dwarves was released as the first full length animated feature film in Technicolor. It was a huge success and held box- office records as hightest grossing film in America until it was put out by gone with the wind in 1940.
These three advances in animation were huge steps, but only a glimpse of what changes walt Disney made as a whole. Even after his death walt is remembered as a legacy in the world of animation. QUOTEÐ'...obviously walt was very humble about his work, and never took too much credit
