Good afternoon Mr. John Smith,
WCOI is an injection molding company producing upscale curtly, serving utensils, plates and additional catering items. With several locations around the United States it is important to have uniformed training between the locations. The focus for this evaluation has been placed on the scheduling/planning department.
WCOI can benefit from training and employee development in the scheduling/planning department. As an outside consultant I noticed WCOI has some inconsistences that would be improved with the help of uniformed training. One of the departments that would benefit from training is the scheduling/planning department. After my observations I noticed that between each of the locations there is not consistent or a standardized process training process.
The goal of the scheduling/planning department is to ensure product is available to cover customer orders and forecasted projections from the company’s Sales and Marketing department. Employee development is important within the area of scheduling/planning to reduce customer order delays and excessive production costs, based on inefficient production runs. In order for WCOI’s continued growth and less disruption on the production floor employee development is important for the organization at this time.
Prioritizing employee development could lead directly to achieving the business’s goals and mission by increasing output and keeping costs low, which keeps margins high. This training also ensures that product is available to satisfy customers’ needs without long delays
There are several types of training I would recommend for WCOI to differentiate itself from the competition. The first type of training I would recommend for the organization would be APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) ("Apics", 2015). APICS training and materials is an important tool to learn the whole supply chain and how it effects a business’s everyday operation. This training course offers several areas of focus for scheduling/planning, all of which are aimed at developing improved production planning ideas within a business. This in turn has an advantage of streamlining production and reducing the need to change the production schedule.
Utilization of on the job training, led by the company’s master scheduler/planner, could also enable WCOI unique advantages. Being able to teach younger less seasoned employees would help the company’s productivity and keep costs low.
