In these experiment an ethanolic solution of acetone and Benzaldhyde add to aqueous sodium hydroxide. The product, We crystallizes product (dibenzalaceton ) after a few minute, the product is filtered from the mixture, washed, dry it. We want to find out the mass of product, after we dry it.
We put all ingredients in the test tube, we make a solution. It contain 0.058 gr Acetone and 0.216g Benzaldehyde, 1.6ml of 95% Ethanol , 2ml of 3M Hydroxide. Benzaldyde is initially in
Soluble in solution . The solution gets cloudy, after a minute, we saw, yellow participate. The color of product changed from cloudy to yellow. I shake tube for 30 minute. After 30 minute, I saw crystallize in test tube, I collect the crystals on a Hirsch Funnel, I use Vacuum Filtrations.
I had scientific error. I think, I didn't wash all solid. Some crystal stays in test tube.
The melting point of my product was 99"C. When I compare with book (110"C-112"C), It was less than book. I think , I had some impurity
