Assignments for Week Six

One

In this unit, we are going to take a look at how species evolve. Do your reading and peruse the PowerPoint. Pages 260-264 discuss the four mechanisms of evolution. I would like you to tell me how these mechanisms relate to humans. For each mechanism answer either one of these questions:

1. How are humans increasing the effects of this mechanism to accelerate evolution?

2. How are humans decreasing the effects of this mechanism to decelerate evolution?

Then I would like you to discuss your answers with a classmate. Place at least one comment that the classmate made concerning your answers at the bottom of your document and e-mail it to me. Be sure to include the person's name that reviewed your paper on your document. This assignment is due at 11:00PM EST on Wednesday July 13th.

The grading will be based on how well you explained your answers to each condition. A good response will reference the reading for each of the topics. Real life examples and explanations will help support your case.

Two

The next assignment is going to require you to do a little research online. Start by searching for two misconceptions of evolution. Once you have found each misconception, determine the correct concept. You will then use this knowledge in our group discussion for this week.

Once this is done, participate in the discussion group. Peer responses are due by Sunday July 17th.

Your grade on this assignment will be based on the quantity and quality of your responses. An "A" will require you to give quality responses for the first two parts of the discussion and also the quality of your two peer responses. A "B" will result in not completing a part or not making a statement that reflects thought. Late postings will result in a lower grade.
