What is nutrition? Nutrition is the study of food and the ways your body uses food. To be healthy you need a balanced diet; you need the correct amount nutrients from in class everyday. There are six classes of nutrients: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. BMI stands for body mass index. Your body mass index is an index of weight in relation to height that is used to evaluate your healthy body weight. You can calculate your BMI by using this equation: BMI= weight (lb)/ height (in)/ height (in) x 703. For normal weight, your BMI should be between 18.5-24.9. My BMI is 24.9 so I am in the normal weight range. RDI is the abbreviation for you recommended daily intake. This refers to the sufficient level of each category of nutrients you should intake daily.
After tracking my meals on MyFitnessPal, I've noticed what nutrients I am not getting enough of and getting too much of. Out of all the days, I never reached my daily fiber intake goal of 25g. I had a daily goal of 60g of protein. There was about an even number of days where I reached my goal and went over. My carbohydrates goal was 150g. I was able to stay under that goal everyday.
Overall, there were many strengths in my diet. Everyday I was able to stay under my calorie goal. My average sodium intake for the week was 1864g. I stayed under my sodium goal which was 2300g. I was also able to exceed my goal of 100% vitamin A.
Over the weekend I was still able to eat under my calories. The main change was the amount of snacks and processed foods. Over the weekend I had two packs of ramen noodles. I also had lots of ice cream and chocolate. However, I was able to limit my other foods to remain under my goals.
From now on, I am going to limit the amount of processed foods I intake. I will continue to stay under my calorie goal. I am going to remain under sugar goal. I was very surprised that I stayed under my overall sodium goals. Counting my calories has opened my eyes to how healthy I really eat.
