What kind of writing am I comfortable doing and why? Most of my writing has been always focused on personal experience. Maintaining a weekly journal is something that I really enjoy. I can write down emotions that I can't express and I have found that writing keeps me sane. Through tough times it has been my rock. It forces me to crystallize my thoughts into written contents and makes me think deeper. Writing can reaffirm and validate what has been accomplished and what needs more attention or different solutions. But most importantly I do write letters to my family back home. As I compare writing a letter versus calling through phone or Skype, this is my preferred method. The communication technology in the Island is very limited and expensive. Writing a letter allows me to detail my emotions in depth and illustrate of past memories. And I can be hopeful for future opportunities as well. It makes me think more and have more to say.
At work I make time to read and respond to email based on their priorities. Even though answering to email can be time consuming I will make sure that my grammar have clarity and precision. Because of the fact that English is my second language I have to push myself to learn it. Also I never go grocery shopping without writing a list. Going shopping without a list is a waste of my time and the result could be disappointing and costly. Buying things that were not needed and forgot the ones I came for is very likely. Another writing experience I can think of is texting. I truly believe it's a waist of time but I do it because my son won't answer his phone. Again I'm illiterate when it comes to short abbreviation, informal or slang language, and when I text every word has to be spelled correctly.
In spite of the fact that my writing has been somewhat minimal, I enjoy writing based on my personal experience and future interest. I use it for self-reflection and avoid repeating same mistakes. After all, sometimes we could use a small kick in the butt to get us going into the right direction. In all honesty it is challenging for me to write about something that I cannot relate with. Sometimes I wonder is it really that difficult; or could there be a proper way to do it that I'm not aware of. I hope that this class will help me improve my writing abilities, so that I can more easily prepare essays, and complete my assignments in a better timeframe. I am also eager to see if this class will help
