What is the importance of philosophy to the teacher?

Importance of Philosophy of Education for Teachers

Philosophy of education is important for the teacher for the following reasons:

1. It provides the teacher with the basis for making his decision concerning his/her works;

2. It helps the teachers develop a wide range of interests, attitudes and values concomitant to his/her professional life;

3. It makes the teacher more aware of his/her own life and work and makes him/her more dynamic, discriminating, critical and mentally alert.

4. It saves time and money and effort.

The Influence of Educational Philosophy in Teaching and Learning

Philosophy of education serves as the ALPHA and the OMEGA or the beginning and end of teaching and learning. Educational aims must be formulated in terms of child's growth and development. It aims of education in the development of the whole individual - physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching philosophy should have the following principles:

1. It should in accord with the philosophy of education of the state and that of educational system;

2. It should contain a religious outlook;

3. It should be in accord with acceptable social, spiritual and ethical standards;

4. It should be characterized by love and service for pupils and students;

5. It should be characterized by strong desire to mold the individual child into a self- reliant, independent and reasonable citizen equipped with proper cooperative and leadership qualities.
