What's Eating Gilbert Grape(1993) is the movie I have chosen for this project. This movie is set in the small town of Endora, IA, where Gilbert Grape (the main character) and his family reside. Gilbert serves as the breadwinner and caretaker for his mother and siblings following his father's suicide. Bonnie his morbidly obese mother suffers from years of depression following her husband's suicide, and hasn't left the house in seven years. His brother Arnie is autistic and his sisters are just akward. Gilbert and Arnies relationship is one of caring and protection. A new chain supermarket has opened, threatening the small mom-and-pop grocery store where Gilbert works, as well as threatening all the other small-time businesses in Endora. Gilbert is involved in an affair with a married women named Betty until an unsuspecting female comes into his life. Becky is a women who takes her grandmother from state to state in a mobile home, until their truck breaks down in the small town of Endora, this is when she meets Gilbert. Their relationship starts to interfere with Gilberts responsibilities and his affair with Betty. Gilbert leaves Arnie alone in the bathtub by himself, believing he is now old enough to get out on his own. He returns home late and wakes up the following morning to find Arnie still in the tub, shivering in the cold water. Gilbert's guilt is not the only thing waying on him so is his family's anger. As a result Arnie refuses to get near water, including the pond by Becky's trailer, and his fear causes him to become extremely dirty, making more problems Gilbert has to deal with. Arnie gets arrested for climbing the water tower he loved to climb, because Gilbert wasn't watching him. Bonnie decides to leave her house for the first time in seven years to go get her son out of jail, as she leaves the people in the town ridicule her appearance. Arnie is getting ready to turn 18 and they are preparing a party, but Gilbert hits Arnie because he told him to stay out of his cake and Arnie didnt listen. Gilbert gets so stressed out that he leaves town and Arnie goes to Becky for help. Gilbert comes back to apologize on Arnies birthday and sees the Becky is able to get through to Arnie and she also helps Gilbert understand things as well. Once things seem more at peace Bonnie decides she is going to walk up the stairs to go to her bedroom for the first time in years, she died that day. Gilbert knew that
