The Renaissance is a time of enlightenment if there ever was a way to describe it. During the Medieval Period, there were many corrupt practices including servitude and inequality between the sexes. The Renaissance did not just happen of course, it took time and there were many things that stood in the way of progress. During this time however, great changes in thought and study erupted. People began to think for themselves once again and stopped relying on the old ways of though. One of the most noticeable changes was art. Some of the greatest minds came out of this time; their artwork is still praised and debated about to this day. In addition, the sciences were just beginning to progress and laid the foundation for many of out modern day studies in that field. Religion was another great issue during this time as well. It can be considered one of the most controversial matters during the Renaissance if nothing else. People of every status began to realize the corruption in their spiritual leaders, and looked inward instead of outward for guidance in their lives. This may have been the greatest single thing that brought about the Renaissance, and the drive that kept it going.
****Many things that began in the Renaissance are still seen today. Although the world seems to be advancing faster than ever, it is still so easy get lost in our everyday lives. Controversy and complications seem to follow us wherever we go and it's hard to imagine how progress is ever accomplished. Amazingly, there are huge advances being made in every aspect of life. The chemists and doctors of the Renaissance were just scratching the surface of their fields, but they were the first and for that they will forever be remembered. In addition, the artists of the Renaissance are a continual inspiration to people in the 21st century. Everything around us has someone's imagination and inspirations put in it. From the chairs we sit in to the walls around us, everything we see was formed someone's imagination before they ever became reality. We have our own dreams and goals as well, and everything we do relates to that goal in some way. Just as during the Renaissance, progress was collective; it took the ideas of many both working with and against each other to become as great as it was. The same can be said today, although there are many more minds, many more ideas and many more distractions, we are still moving forward collectively.
